# One design system, a second brand

I designed the GoTemp app, a flexi-jobs platform that makes temporary work fast to find and fast to fill. GoTemp runs on the NxtPeople design system with its own token set, proving the system scales across brands, not just products.

## The challenge.

GoTemp needed its own identity: a lighter, faster brand aimed at flexi-job workers, not HR professionals. It also had to ship quickly and share the platform’s backend and components. A new brand on an existing system usually means one of two failures: a look-alike product, or a fork that drifts away from the core.

## The key decision.

I gave GoTemp its own brand token set on top of NxtPeople-DS. Same components, same semantic layer, different values. The brand changes completely at the surface while every component stays shared and maintained once.

## The rejected option & why.

A separate component library for GoTemp. It would have allowed more visual freedom, but it would have doubled maintenance and let the two products drift apart. A second token set delivered a distinct brand without a second system.

## The outcome.

GoTemp launched as a distinct brand with its own light, recognisable look, separate from NxtPeople. Every screen is made from the same set of reusable shadcn components, and each one has written specs for its states and behaviour. Colours, type and spacing are set once in Figma as tokens and carried into the live product automatically, so one change updates every screen.

## The final verdict.

GoTemp is where NxtPeople-DS proved itself. The system was built for multiple products, and GoTemp tested whether it could also carry a different brand. I defined a new set of brand tokens, mapped them onto the existing semantic layer and designed the candidate flows mobile first, so a flexi worker can browse, apply for and confirm a job in as few steps as possible. AI turned those designs into working components quickly, but the tokens and specs set the rules each one had to meet before it shipped. AI makes the components fast; the system decides whether they belong.
